Our Socially Responsible Investing Milestones
- Progressive Asset Management was founded in 1987
- PAM is a founding member of Businesses for Social Responsibility and a founding member of CERES (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies).
- In 1996 PAM received the Rainforest Action Business Network’s Friend of the Rainforest Award for its sponsorship of various shareholder resolutions.
- In 1998, Formed a strategic alliance with Financial West Group
- In April 2001, PAM and The Global Academy co-hosted the first national conference on socially responsible investing for institutional investors. It was attended by 200 trustees and financial advisors of public pension funds, unions, foundations and churches.
- PAM was the lead filer in a shareholder resolution against the Disney Corporation for its poor labor practices around the world, particularly in Haiti. The resolution was part of a nationwide campaign to end sweatshop practices abroad; it received 8.5% of the vote and forced Disney to negotiate changes in its policies.
PAM has also filed these resolutions at other corporations:
- Pacific Telesis - to stop clear-cutting of old growth forests for the production of telephone books.
- Intel - to reduce environmental pollution at overseas plants.
- International Paper - to eliminate the use of chlorine in papermaking.
- Barnes and Noble - to protect discrimination in employee promotion
- Chevron - to end pollution in the San Francisco Bay.
