Eric Packer

Financial Advisor

Eric Packer is the Founder of Progressive Asset Management/Boston. As an Investment Advisor Representative with over 22 years of experience, he is dedicated to helping his clients align their values and principles with their investments, while working to achieve competitive financial performance. Eric combines a deep understanding of socially responsible investing (SRI) with his personal and professional commitment to social justice, economic equality, and the movement to address global climate change.

He founded our office in 1996, but Eric's active support for social and environmental progress is woven throughout his varied professional career. Prior to joining the financial sector, Eric served as a social worker for over seven years. Throughout his time working with state and local agencies serving families, teens, and seniors, he acted on his belief that governments, communities, and individuals all play essential roles in supporting people's desire for change and growth.

After leaving social work, Eric devoted several years to developing senior housing communities, which gave him a valuable understanding of project financing and development. An integral part of this work was addressing the personal and financial needs of aging parents and their grown children, with a special focus on helping the elderly "age in place," while maintaining a full and meaningful life.

Eric joined Prudential Securities in 1993, when South African divestment was the major social justice investment issue. After his time with Prudential, he was proud to be asked to open the Boston area office of Progressive Asset Management, a well-established California-based firm that was eager to join New England's thriving SRI community. Just as Eric advises, encourages, and inspires his clients to invest responsibly, so have his clients inspired and educated him about their evolving social and environmental priorities, including human rights, global climate change and the corresponding fossil fuel divestment campaign, and the GMO labeling movement.

Eric has a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Boston University and a MSW from the University of Louisville. He holds Series 7, 24, 51, and 66 professional registrations. He is actively involved with the US Social Investment Forum, and the Massachusetts Climate Action Network, the Northeast Organic Farmers Association, and other activist organizations. When not working, Eric can be found cycling, kayaking, and going out to hear live blues, soul, jazz, reggae, and classic rock in Boston and around New England.
